University of Lincoln continues to climb the university league tables

The University of Lincoln has risen to 53rd place in this year’s Complete University Guide, improving on last year’s ranking by 14 places from 67th place.

The online Guide published on 24 April ranks 116 institutions according to the combined data for nine areas: student satisfaction; research assessment; entry standards; student/staff ratio; academic services spend; facilities spend; good honours; graduate prospects; completion rates.

For the School of Architecture, there has been further good news.  The School now ranks 25th, an improvement of 11 places on last year.  Whilst our UCAS minimum entry points are 320 points for BA (Hons) Architecture, the average has risen over the past year to 371, which is higher that the University average of 315.  Within the East Midlands region, the Lincoln School of Art and Design now sits in 3rd place behind Nottingham University and De Montfort University in nearby Leicester.

Head of School, Derek Cottrell commented that “we are extremely pleased to see a continuing improvement in our league position, as these results are based on what our students experience and feel about their education at Lincoln.  We are committed to continuing this ongoing rise".

Architecture graduate turns to world of Fashion

It's not often that students graduate in one discipline and then immediately find their careers taking off in a completely different direction, but that's exactly what has happend to recent graduate Michel Geraghty has been featured on the cover of a leading fashion magazine.

The 21-year-old, who graduated last year with a degree in BA (Hons) Architecture, has appeared on the cover of Drapers magazine, a leading fashion industry publication, and featured in TK Maxx’s re-branding exercise.

Michel first appeared on the catwalk as a model in the University's annual Fashion Show which showcases the collections designed and made by final year Fashion students.  So successful was his first appearance in the world of Fashion, he has since gone on to model in London shows, spent two weeks at the Milan shows, and has just shot a soon to be released look book celebrating the 30th anniversary of designer men’s clothing company Stone Island.

Michel explains: “I was interested in fashion throughout my time at university, combining my degree in Architecture with working as a stylist and for a luxury luggage label, and starting up my blog.
“I was in London with another model as his stylist and waiting outside the shoot for him when an agency scout asked me if I was the model.

“I didn’t plan to become a model, but just happened to be in the right place at the right time and things have escalated from there.
“I love modelling and fashion, but hope to pick up my career in architecture again in a few years’ time,” Michael explained.

If there are any other Architecture students wishing to make the switch to Fashion, then this year's model casting takes place on Wednesday 25 April and the show takes place on Friday 25 May.  You can find out more by email or phoning 01522 837100.
