Following a welcome given by the Head of the School, Derek Cottrell, second Year Course Leader Barbara Griffin presented the day's brief to a packed lecture hall (shown above). Parents were then given a tour and talk through the exhibition of student work in the Gallery, whilst the applicants were divided into groups and made their way to the studios where they would spend the next 3 hours working on their projects.
The studio brief was to design a pod/capsule/vessel for a client in which to be creative. The applicants were split into small groups in which all played the part of the client and the architect. Using drawing, diagrams, and models as a method of describing information to inform the design proposal, each of the applicants had just 3 hours to come up with a design.

Parents and applicants alike gathered together to see a showreel of the work produced within the session, followed by a "mini" exhibition shown on the staircase of the Architecture building. It was incredible to see the amount of detail that some of the applicants had gone into, and the 3D models were just amazing.

The standard of work produced was very high, with some great designs and a great deal of creativity which was exactly what we had hoped for. Here are just a few examples.
